What is the Difference Between a Crocodile and an Alligator?

Crocodile and alligator are different in many ways. The first way is that crocodile’s body color is lighter olive brown, while the alligator is blackish. This is the physical difference and you can judge it is crocodile or alligator from its color, it is a good way to know it.

The another way to judge it is crocodile or alligator from the jaw, the crocodile jaw has the same width in its upper and lower jaw, while the alligator’s upper jaw is wider than its lower jaw, so from this point and you can judge it is which one is very easy.

The third way that you can know it is crocodile or alligator you can watch the snout of crocodile or alligator, the snout of crocodile is long, narrow and in V- shaped. While the alligator’s snout is wide in U-shaped.

The fourth difference between them is crocodile comes from the crocodylidae family, while alligator comes from the alligatordae family. No wonder they two have many ways are different, because they are from the different family. But they two both belong to crocodilians.

Except the difference between them they two also have same point , they both have glands on their tongues. And the other same point they two are cruel in eating animals or humans. While they two like water, the crocodiles like staying in the salt water while alligators like staying in the fresh water.

In terms of laying eggs, they are different too, crocodiles like laying their little baby in the mud or sand nests which are closer to brackish water, alligators like laying their egg far from the mounds of vegetation surrounding freshwater.

If you want to find the crocodile, where do you should go? In the United States you can find them in southern tip of Florida or caribbean or central Amercia and South America. While alligator you can find them in the southeastern United States. However you can see them two in one place that is South Florida.
